TIMO MAAS
"MUSIC FOR THE MAASES"
(HOPE)
4LP/2CD
Self-styled purveyor of
"percussive wet funk", Timo Maas releases his first
album through his own label Hope Recordings. It coincides with
his much anticipated and awaited follow-up single to ‘Der Schieber’
which reached the lower echelons of the UK charts back in March. ‘Ubik’
(the new single out on Paul Oakenfold’s Perfecto label) features the
Beck-esque vocals of Martin Bettinghaus and if the hype surrounding
this track is to be devoured, then will be a radio and chart
certainty.
Timo Maas
is producer and remixer of more than 85 productions in three years,
including classics like Orinoko’s ‘Mama Konda’, and his snarling
snare-driven mix of ‘Doom’s Night’ by Azzido Da Bass. As well as
Hope Recordings and current label Perfecto, he’s also
recorded for Hooj Choons, FFRR, and Bush. Now a bi-monthly resident at
New York’s "Twilo" club alongside Sascha, Digweed, Deep
Dish, Carl Cox, and Paul Van Dyk, Timo Maas has become one of
the biggest DJs in the world.
‘Music For The Maases’ is
Timo Maas’ retrospective production anthology. It takes in
older and seriously overlooked moments like ‘Killing Me’, whilst
keeping the vibes bang up-to-date with ‘Der Schieber’, and his
much loved and crossed-over remix anthem ‘Doom’s Night’, working
its way through remixes of Jan Driver’s ‘Drive By’, Green Velvet’s
‘Flash’, Paganini Trax’ ‘Zoe’, and several of Timo’s
own cuts.
What you have here is the beginning
of something very, very big all neatly compacted into a smooth
two-hour mix that’s funky, deep, trippy, and very wet in places.
Pure brilliance!
