VARIOUS (KEVIN SAUNDERSON)
"KS01"
(TRUST THE DJ)
CD
[RELEASE: MAR 2002]
What a compilation!
The man responsible for pretty much defining the techno genre delivers his
first mix compilation in years and it rocks.
Kevin
Saunderson is known for being one of the founding godfathers of techno,
but he was, in fact, born in Brooklyn in New York in 1964 and moved to
Detroit at the tender age of nine.
Everyone thinks
of Inner City when they think of Kevin Saunderson, but what most
people don’t know is that Inner City was initially called Inter City and
that Kevin has recorded under numerous guises such as Kreem, Tronik
House, Es’Ray, Reese, and Santonio, The Reese Project and of course his
latest guise, E-Dancer. However, his biggest achievement and his most
commercially recognized project has been Inner City. With the E-Dancer
project Kevin has the opportunity to create music which is more
underground. His first E-Dancer album ‘Heavenly’ was released in 1998 to
critical acclaim, and in the US it was named by Spin magazine as “one of the
ten best albums you’ve never heard”. Right now apart from developing his own
record label KMS, where the aim is to help and develop new talent and more
importantly to continue to create and release great music, Kevin has
also been out in Arizona, USA, where he has been coaching the baseball team
that he manages (the Detroit Dodgers), but that’s another story...
This latest instalment in the fine “Trust The DJ” mix
album series has all the harshness beat-stealing of Kevin Saunderson’s
live sets, but adds a subtle finesse which makes it ideal for home, car and
club listening. Anywhere with a stereo, really. Tracklisting highlights
include John Thomas ‘African Power’, Samuel L. Sessions ‘Lush
Life’, Octave One ‘Blackwater’, Adam Beyer ‘Remainings 3’,
Funk D’Void ‘Diabla’, E-Dancer ‘World Of Deep’, Gary Martin
‘Casa Cougat’, DJ Bear Who ‘Yeah’ and many more.
